Mademoiselle Regrenil ( the Hussar)
Louise Regrenil joined the Vendee uprising after her younger brother was murdered by Republican soldiers. Tall, strong and brave, on her first ‘Outing’ she killed a Hussar Officer and took his horse, weapons and accoutrements, all of which she put to good use in her future forays, thus earning herself the nickname ‘The Hussar’. She fought throughout the Vendee rising and lived on into the 1840’s.
